Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the Peregrine falcons that are mostly known for their hunting skills and aerial aerobratics. The author of the reading states that they are found in every continent except Antartica however the popultion in other region are declining and the passage proposed some measures to elevate species population. However lecturer disagrees. He mentions that although the solutions are well intented they are not promising and he attacks each of the points made in the article.
Firstly, the author begins by stating that preserving the falcons nesting area is fundamental to maintain their population. In addition, since they nests usually in cliffe and tall building, talking to the land owner in order to decrease distruption that construction work creates might be helpful for them to survive. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that we cannot have access to the private lands so this might not be helpful. Furthermore, since falcons are nesting in city area it is challenging to balance the needs of human and birds.
Secondly, according to the writing owing to the volunerability of predation if we could control predator population then it will diminish the chance to decline falcons population. In addition, non lethal method of deterrents or repellents can be applied. The speaker on other hand points out that this might be even more dangerous to thefalcons population. When we try to control predator species then there is a chance of increment of another species that might be more perilous for falcons.
Finally, the reading passage also notes that reassuring the sick or injured falcons might be convincing. To be more precise, they got injured because of pollution and human activities so releasing them back to their natural state might be the possible alternative. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that this action might aid individual however not in long run as it is time consuming process.
As we see, the author and professor holds conflicting views on the ways to elevate falcons species. The speaker effectively challenges the writer’s argumnet.
