Free time activities of the elderly in The United States from 1980 to the present

A glance at the line graph provided illustrates the percentage of old generations doing five different activities in their leisure time in the United States from 1980 to present. In general, it is clearly apparent that hiking, reading, and surfing the internet had a downward trend while watching TV and theatre showed the opposite.

Looking in more detail, in 1980s, watching TV was the most popular leisure activity among elderly at 60% followed by theatre at 50% while surfing the internet was the least favorited at 5%. In addition hiking and reading only did by 20% and 30% of the elderly. In the next two decades, the old generation who liked watching TV and surfing the internet increased gradually by 10% while those who liked hiking rose significantly to 60%. On the other hand, the figures of elderly who spent their free time for reading and theatre dropped by 10% although both experienced a fluctuation in 1990s.

In the 2010s until present, surprisingly, the number of respondents who love hiking had being increase surpassing the other activities at 80%. Additionally, reading and surfing internet had also gaining popularity which significantly reached 60% and 50% respectively. Furthermore, theatre also showed a marginal increase but still below the beginning point at 45%. Oppositely, watching TV reported to decline slightly by 5%. However it still be the second higest activities done in free time.
