In the reading passage, it is mainly argued that urbanization, expansion of agricultural lands, and increase in the use of chemical pesticides causes result in a decrease in population. However, in the lecture lecturer shows how this argument is not true in every aspect.
Firstly, in the passage, it is said that as a result of expansion in human populations natural habitats of birds disappear. On the other hand, in the lecture she says that cities provide habitat for some kind of birds. Thus, although the increase in urbanization can cause a decrease in some birds population, at the same time cities increases populations of some other birds population.
Secondly, the lecturer opposite the idea made in the reading passage that agricultural lands are increasing and this means that a decrease in birds habitat accordingly. But ın the lecture she says that because of new production methods and crop types, less and less land is used for agriculture every year. That is why the idea that the amount of land used for agriculture increases is not true and the argument on decrease of bird population is either.
Lastly, in the reading passage it is written that an increase in human settlement and agriculture, the use of chemical pesticides increases and this damages the bird population. She again, refuses this in the lecture and says that there is a awareness among people about the harm of chemicals and they are using less chemical pesticides. She adds that more pest resistance crops are becoming common and this decrease of usage of pesticides. That is why it cannot be said that bird populations are decreasing because of pesticides.
