People who make decisions based on emotion and justify those
decisions with logic afterwards are poor decision makers.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree
or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the
position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you
should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold
true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
The author claims that poor decision makers are those
people who make decisions by considering their emotions
and then later on justify those emotions logically. This issue
is a contentious one but I would like to disagree with the
author because of thee folowing reasons.
Firstly, every good decision in the history does not claim
that emotions were not involved in it and that they have
not been justified later by logic. For example, initially many
people were involved in the feminist movements only
because they were emotionally concerned by the suffering
of women. They took the decision based on emotions and
then successfully justified it with logic to get the right to
vote for women.
Secondly, researchers now suggest that EQ(Emotional
Quotient) is important for a good decision-making
process. So, people who make decisions based on emotions
and later justify logically are not por decision makers. For
example, a political leader who understand the needs of
his/her voters and make decisins emotionally for them and
then justify his/her decisions logically is a better decision
maker than who only takes decisions logically without
feelings or emotions.
Finally, with the increase in technology, if the emotions were
not at all imortant in decision making process then why
researchers are so desperate to add feelings and emotions
in artificial intelligent devices. So,decisons without emotions
and purely on logic are bad decisions. It does not matter it
that decisions are justified later or not. For example, without
emotions robots could kill people if they are asked to do
so. This makes them poor decision makers.
To sum up, I disagree with the statement which is asserted
by the author. The statement says that people who use
emotions to make decisions and afterwards justify it with
logic are poor decision makers.
