According to the reading passage, it is stated that the decline in the population of frogs have serious consequences for their ecosystems, like disease-carrying insects which are harmful for humans may be increased in the absence of these frogs; hence, the reading passage provides some solutions to deal with this problem. However, the lecturer states why the assumptions mentioned in the reading passage were not correct and refutes them by describing three reasons as follows.
Firstly, the reading claims that strict laws should be set to prevent farmers from using detrimental pesticides near frog habitats. The professor casts doubt on this point by saying that this approch can't be economically fair or practical. She states that this solution may bring severe disadvantages to the farmers that have farms in these kinds of habitats; because by following strict regulations they won't be able to compete with other farmers whose farms are in other regions.
Secondly, the article posits that other solution can be using antifungal treatments to kill fungus, which is a very widespread fatal problem around the world, with heat. In contrast, the professor says that this medication should be applied individually to each frog continually, to be useful. Therefore, according to the professor, a practice like this will be very complicated and expensive.
Finally, the reading says that if major water habitats such as lakes and marshes would be better protected from excessive human activities, frog populations will recover. The professor opposes this point by explaining that however reading says that human activities are the most serious threat for frog habitats, the real risk is global warming. She goes on to say that not only frogs but several others species are going extinct due to the global warming issue; as a result, banning excessive human activities can't save frog society.
