The given line chart depicts carbon footprints rate of one individual in different nations from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, it is evident that UK remained to have the highest carbon emission throughout the 40 year period, whereas Portugal was the lowest. Additionally, comparing United Kingdom and Sweden where the average amount of carbon production experienced a downward trend, the rate gradually increase over the years in Italy and Portugal.
Upon closer analysis, Portugal and Italy share an identical pattern of the rise in carbon with each other. To be more specific, in 1967, the CO2 emission in metric tonnes within a person are around 2 for Portugal and just above 4 for Italy as the trend then witnessed a constant growth over the mentioned period and reached a staggering figure of approximately 6 and 8 per Portuguese and Italian, respectively in 2007. In stark contrast, both United Kingdom and Sweden experienced a decline in greenhouse gases emission from a peak of over 10 metric tonnes for UK and around 8 metric tonnes for Sweden. In 2007, the average amount of carbon dioxide released in the atmosphere in UK plummeted to between 8 and 9 tonnes while Sweden saw a sharp drop from above 10 in 1977 to under 6 tonnes in 2007.
