As per the first table, the number of the worldwide population stood at 2.5 billion in 1950, while the population figures saw a marked rise to 6 billion over 50 years. In 2000, Asia continued to rank as the top population in the world, comprising three-fifths of the world population, compared to a sharp decline in terms of the number of European residents, at 12%. And the figure for Europe is predicted to decrease continuously to 7%. In comparison, the distribution of the population in Asia decrease slightly and is anticipated to be just 59% in 2050.
Looking at another region, an increasing trend is seen in the case of North America (7 to 4%), whereas in Latin America and Oceania, it is expected to stabilize at 9 and 1% respectively. Finally, in Africa where the population is projected to make up one-fifth of the global population.
