The line graph provides information about the proportion of city residents in four countries from 1970 to 2020 and the forecast for 2030 and 2040.
Overall, all four countries experienced an increase in the number of people who lived in cities for 30 years, and the number is expected to keep rising until 2040. It is also clear that Malaysia and Indonesia have higher percentages of urban population than the other two countries.
The inhabitants of the cities kept slowly going up, from 30% and around 15% in 1970 to nearly 75% and 50% in Malaysia and Indonesia, respectively. It is predicted to grow to over 80% and 60% of the total population in 2040 in Malaysia and Indonesia, respectively.
Thailand also has the same city population tendency as Malaysia and Indonesia. It was lower than 20% in 1970, rises steadily, and is guessed to reach to 40% in 2040. In Philipines, it was started with the highest city population in 1970, which was more than 30% of the total population, and will go up to 54% in 2040, however, the proportion of people living in cities was decreased from 50% to about 40% during 20 years, from 1990 to 2010.
