The passage and lecture both discuss the population of yellow cedar. The passage points out that these tress have been declining, and the author provides three hypotheses to address this claim. However, the lecturer, holding critical view rails against what the author asserts.
First of all, it has been highlighted in the passage that since bark beetle in known to attack cedar trees, it is possible that they decrease yellow cedar. In contrast, the speaker explains the data from these trees shows that yellow cedar is killer for insects. So this decline would not be as a result of insect parasites. This directly contradicts what the reading indicates.
As the second hypothesis, the text contends that this decline caused by brown bear. According to reading, cedar bark contain sugar which brown bear like it. While not having been convinced, the speaker explains that there is no evidence to prove the existence of bear next to these trees. This was another part where experienced significantly contradicted the reading.
Finlay, the text claims that the variation of climate may be the cause. the author says that the patterns of climate including season to season and day to day have changed. On the other hand, the lecturer claims that since a lot of trees and other species are sensitive to climate changes, other plants should die. In addition, speaker figure out some other results to support that this is not what killing them.
In conclusion, taking into account all of these factors we note that the text and lecture are unlike.
