Essay topics:

You cannot pick your friend up at the airport. Write a letter to him/her. In your letter, you should explain the reasons. You should provide him/her with alternative ways to go to the hotel. You should inform him/her of your plan.

Dear Maggie,

It has been a long time since we did not see each other, and I hope that you are doing well in this period. I am writing this letter to apologize that I cannot pick you up at the airport.

First of all, one of my friends has unfortunately developed a severe chronic condition and lived in a hospital recently. Therefore, I have to spend that day taking after him. In addition, I am also busy with my job, as my leader has allocated an important assignment to me, which would take a long time to complete.

However, you do not need to be obsessive about how to arrive the hotel. Once you leave the airport, you have a series of options to reach the hotel. Firstly, you can call a cab that would merely cost you approximately twenty dollars; or, you prefer to a cheaper transport mode, you can purchase the bus ticket that charges you 10 dollars.

I will visit you at the hotel in two days after you settle in it. I intend to take you to visit the famous skyscraper, one of the tallest buildings in Melbourne, the rooftop of which allows you to enjoy the magnificent panorama of the whole city.
I hope that you will accept my apologizes. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

David Villa.

flaws:
Better to use less pronouns as possible. The reason is that IELTS examiners don't like pronouns from the feedback of testbig users.

for example:

Firstly, you can call a cab that would merely cost you approximately twenty dollars; or, you prefer to a cheaper transport mode, you can purchase the bus ticket that charges you 10 dollars.

revised:
Firstly, Cabs are available everywhere to merely cost you approximately twenty dollars; or, a cheaper transport mode by purchasing the bus ticket that charges you 10 dollars.
