Should college students play video games?

Essay topics:

Should college students play video games?

According to the listening material, video games aren't just for kids. In fact, the average age of the gamer is 33 years old. There is no doubt that for college students, playing video games is as much a part of life as studying and partying. Some people think that college students should be prevented from playing video games because of the drawbacks playing video games brings; however, in my opinion, playing video games appropriately is beneficial.

To begin with, beyond our common sense, playing video games improves our visual skill and this improvement seems to be durable. According to the reading material, Daphne Bavelier conducted a research of video gaming's effect on vision. The result was astonishing: after playing "Call of Duty" for 50 hours, the performance of the participants was better! In our daily life, video gamers are more likely to detect possible hazards and avoiding them than those who don't.

Moreover, playing video games can help us forge friendship. When we play video games, we feel more relaxed and happy, which has a positive effect on maintaining and developing friendship. And playing video games opens up our chances of meeting like-minded peers. The purpose of winning the game holds people together, strengthens the bond.

Thirdly, playing educational video games rises our engagement to enhance learning. According to the reading material above, gamification in education is not a new concept. It is not a dream for college students to learn math, history and science through playing video games in the future.

Although many people concern that playing video games excessively forces college students to forgo many truly meaningful things in their precious college years, I think that there is no need to worry about. As young adults, we are responsible for ourselves and we have the ability to arrange time reasonably, to control the time of playing video games proactively, to avoid becoming the easy victims of a vicious cycle.

In conclusion, playing video games properly is a good outlet for stress, a meaningful way to learn and a effective channel to meet more people; thus, college students should play video games.
