Governments should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and
development.
Whther goverment sould put few restrictions on scientific research and development, I would not agree completely with it, as I think putting restriction on the research and development might impact the scope of the research. If we look at the last 20 years, there are many things around us exist which many of us wouldn't even have thought of 20 years before. World has changed faster in the last 20years than that in the 100 years. All the new innovations and the development are product of the research. Now a days almost all the big or middle scale product companies have a dedicated department for the research and the development. Today we have advanced in the different different fields.
For example if we look at the medical field it has changes so fast, before it use to take hours for a simple eye operation, today with the help of laser technology operation can be done in minimum time and patient can go home on same day and recover fast too. this is the result of the research and the development.
Researchers should be given freedome to use their capabilities, if we put restriction on a perticular field with the bad innovation some good innovations related to that part will also be restricted.
However, we have to be specific on which type of restrictions we are talking about here. I do belive that their is need of restriction on creations of the bio-weapons used for the war. One of its most recent example is the coronavirus, and whole world has experienced its impact. Even if for the security purpose goverment is using these type of weapons they should make sure that the civilians would not be impacted by these type of reaserch. There should not be any scope for the casualities which has happed in case of the coronavirus.
I do agree on these type of restrictions. Labs used for such sensitive and possibly disasterous researches should be in such a places which are less populated or away from the residential areas. Moreovers goverment should have a commiti to check the quality of the labs where these type of reaserches are carried out, to ovoid or minimize the possibilies of life loss that world has experienced in the 2020 and 2021.
From the above discussions i would like to conclude that whether the goverment should put the restrictions on reasearch and the development is the subjective topic. We need to make sure that these restricitions would not restrict the scope of the research and will provide enough freedom for the scientist to gift the world with new technologies and innovations without disasterous impact or life loss.
