The bar chart below shows the hours per week that teenagers spend doing certain activities in Chester from 2002 to 2007
Overall, while teenagers allocated more and more time to go to pubs or discos, watch television and go shopping, the amount of time spent on other pursuits experienced an overall downward trend, except watching DVDS, which fluctuated. During this period, recreation activities are the most favoured among adolescents and doing homework or doing sport and bowling are less popular.
Going to pubs or discos took teenagers about 6 hours in 2002 and increased significantly to above 16 hours in 2007. The amount of time spent watching television rose from 25 hours at the beginning of the period to approximately 37 hours in the final year. Similarly, the figure for time spent on shopping soared from around 7 hours in 2002 to 15 hours five years later.
In 2002, doing homework took teenagers about 13 hours, prior to a decline to 7 hours in 2007. Throughout the given period, the amount of time spent on doing sport and bowling observed a substantial fall from 10 hours to about 3 hours and from 4 hours to around 1 hour respectively. Young adolescents dedicated slightly above 10 hours watching DVDs in 2002, this reached a peak of 17 hours in 2004 before falling to 10 hours at the end of the period.
