The graph illustrates the proportion of expenditure the government spent on transportation related in terms of four different countries (Italy, Portugal, UK, US) between 1990 and 2005.
Overall, it can clearly be seen that the amount of money used for infrastructure in Portugal lessen each year. Meanwhile, except for the year of 1995, the US government invested more money on roads and transport.
In the year of 1990, Portugal funded about 27% of their expenditures on infrastructure, in which it provided the largest amount of money out of 4 countries. Similar to Portugal, Italy also spent more than 20% to upgrade and expand public provision. Meanwhile, the UK spent the least, where only 10% of government revenue was put into road and transport. The US spent slightly more than the UK, with approximately 11%.Over 5-year interval, all 4 countries had their expenditures declined, approximately 1% to 3% fell.
In 2000, Italy, the UK, and the USA significantly invested more fund on transport infrastructure, in which increased to 23%, 12% and 13% respectively. Whereas the proportion of fund spent in Portugal continued to decrease to around 22% in the same period and then to 20% after another 5 years, where Italy and the UK also had their spending fell almost 5%. The USA was the only country that funded extra, where its percentage rose up to 15%.
