The chart below gives information about the age of women in Australia when they give birth to their first child in 1966, 1986 and 2006.
The provided bar graph depicts the percentage of first-time mothers at six different age groups in Australia in three respective years - 1966 1986 and 2006.
Generally, over the given period, women tend to give birth later in their lives with the percentages of the two youngest age categories fell while the percentages of the next three age group were seen upward trends.
In 1966, first-time mothers whose ages ranged between 20 and 24 started at the highest percentage of about 70%, which was nearly twice as much as that of those who were 19 and below. There were very few women gave birth to the first child in their age ranges of 30 - 34 (approximately 15%) and 35 to 39 (13%). A negligible 2% of women who are 40 and above had a decision of giving birth to the first child in that year. In two-decade time, There was a tremendous plummet in the percentages of first-time mothers of the first two age categories to 20% and 40% respectively. Set up a portion of those whose aged between 30 to 35 rocketed to nearly 60% and then surpassed both of the previous age groups. There was not any change in the percentage of women who are above 40 years old in 1986.
20 years later percentages of first time mother in the first 2H categories continued to fall and there was also a mild reduction by nearly 10% in the proportion of women of the third age group. All of the first three age ranges were outnumbered by that of the fourth age range in 2006 (slightly more than 50%). A slight rise of about 3% was seen in the percentage of women of 40 and over giving birth to the first child.
