The line graph compares how many cars that each household can own in America during a 30-year period, starting from 1975.
Overall, it is clear that the percentage of families having two cars and three cars increased between 1975 and 2005, while the opposite trend was true for that of having no car. Also, the figure for household owning one car had no change after 30 years, although fluctuation.
Looking at the chart for more details, although the household having two cars and three cars were similar in terms of a general upward trend, the proportion of household with two cars in all years shown was higher than that of three cars. Starting at about 7.5%, the proportion of household having two cars tripled that of three cars. In the next years, both objects continue to increase steadily to approximately 10% and 18% in 2005, respectively.
By contrast, there was a significant decrease of 20% in the number of households with no car in 1985, which was followed by going down gradually to 22% in 2005. Besides, although the year 1985 witnessed a sharp fluctuation at 37%, the percentage of families with one car remained stable at the highest point (exactly 45%) after 30 years.
