Overall, it is evident that the proportion of residents in all given areas is predicted to increase. In addition, Latin America and the Caribbean recorded higher population levels than other areas and are expected to remain this way in 2030.
In 1950, the rate of city population in Latin America and the Caribbean was far oustripping other cities which represented roughly 42%. While nearly 15% and 12% of the population in Asia and Africa were city dwellers, respectively. Just under a third of the population was urbanites in the whole world in 1950.
50 years later, Africa displays a threefold increase in urban population. In both these areas the city population accounted for 38% of the total. It is predicted that by 2030 the urban population will continue to grow in all areas by 10-15%, while in the whole world the percentage of urbanites is expected to be 60%.
