The line graph illustrated the annual shift in the quantities of various types of incidents taken place in Newport City centre between 2003 and 2012.

Overall, the figures for robberies experienced continuous oscillations, whereas those of burglaries and car thieves witnessed a downward tendency, in which stealing car was the most common crime and robbery was the least in 2012.

In the first five years of the given period, number of burglary and car thief cases faced a decrease, that of robbery fluctuated. To be more specific, figures of burglaries plummeted by 1800 cases, peaking at 3700 in 2004 and ending at 1600 incidents in 2008. In contrast, number of stolen cars declined then slightly rose, overtaken that of break-in in the mid of 2006, finishing the sub period at 2100 cases. Interestingly, quantities of robberies always bottomed the chart, vacillating around 500 and 900 cases.

In the remaining period, cases of car theft, burglary and robbery all experienced an upward trend, reaching the figures of 2700, 1400 and 600 incidents in 2008 respectively.
