The bar chart compares and contrasts data on the changes in the number of members in both genders anticipating fitness activity over a three-decade period from 1970 to 2000.
Generally speaking, despite fluctuations in fitness membership, more women involved in working out than men did in this time period.
More specifically, the overall increase in female fitness membership was 1000, from 1000 members in 1970 to 2000 members in 2000. For the opposite sex, however, the figure experienced a declined of 1000 members in the same period of time. Starting at 2000 members in the first year, the male members rose to 4000 in the next five years, followed by a downward trend to less than 2000 in 1985. The figure soon experienced a rapid increase and reached a peak of 5000 members in 1995. This figure then dropped significantly and hit the lowest point of 1000, which was half of the female members in 2000. It is interesting to note that the members from both sexes were approximately 2000 in the year 1990. The biggest difference between the two genders was 1000 for women in 1970 and 5000 for men in 1995, a difference of 4000 members in 25 years.
