The chart below shows the number of men and women (in thousand) in further education in Britain in three periods and whether they were studying full-time or part-time.
The chart shows the data on British people in full-time and part-time further education from 1970 to 1990/91. As it is shown apparently in the chart, there were much more people both men and women studying full-time further education than part-time in the given periods.
Firstly, there were about 1000 thousand men studying full-time further education in 1970/71. However, this number has been decreased to an average of 850 thousand in 1980/81 and 1990/91. In a contrast, the number of men who were studying part-time further education has kept increasing from about 100 thousand in 1970/71 to 200 thousand in 1990/91, even though it was still many times lower than the number of men studying full-time.
On the other hand, the numbers of women both studying full-time and part-time further education have been increased in the given periods. There were nearly 700 thousand women engaged in full-time further education in 1970/71. This number has kept increasing and reached to 1100 thousand in 1990/91, which was even higher than the number of men studying full-time in the corresponding year. The number of women studying part-time further education has been increased likewise from 20 thousand in1970/71 to 200 thousand in 1990/91.
In a summary, we can tell from the chart that women have made more progress than men in further education both full-time and part-time in Britain in the given periods.
