The chart below shows the percentage of people who ate five portions of fruit and vegetables per day in the UK from 2001 to 2008
The bar chart illustrates the proportion of males, females, and children consuming five servings of fruit and vegetables each day in 8 years from 2001 to 2008 in the UK.
It can be clearly seen that the highest percentage of all people consuming fruit and vegetables was women, while the children consistently accounted for the lowest proportion. Furthermore, there was a significant increase in the proportion of those eating these food items over the period.
Starting at just over 20% in 2001, the percentage of women who ate fruit and vegetables steadily went up to reach a peak of almost 35% in the year 2006. this figure then slightly declined to 30% in the final year.
In terms of men and children eating fruit and vegetables, the rate remained stable in the first three years from 2001 to 2003 (about 17% and 12% respectively). From this point, the proportion of men climbed gradually and peaked at around 28% in both 2006 and 2007 before falling to just over 25% in 2008. A similar trend of increase in the figure for children was evident reaching about 26% in 2007 and around 24% in the final year.
