The chart shows the percentage of dependents in five countries in 2000 and 2005. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and take comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart reveals the proportion of dependents in five countries as well as the world average percentage in 2000 and 2005.

It is clear that in 2000, India had the highest percentage of dependents, while Korea saw the least. In 2005, the ratio of dependents in India became the lowest, and at the same time, japan took India’s place and became the county that had the highest percent of dependents. In 2000, the percentages of all the countries were similar to that of the world average, whereas the figures of Korea and Japan increased a lot and outnumbered the world average in 2005.

In 2000, while the world average percentage was around 33%, the number for India dependents was 39%, slightly higher than the number in Indonesia and China. However, the ratios of independents in Korea and Japan were the only two that below average, with the figure of 28% and 30% respectively.

In 2005, while the world average percentage of dependents rise to 40%, the figure of India, Indonesia, and china all decreased to somewhere around 35%. By contrast, Korea and Japan saw a great rise to a similar 48 percent.
