The chart shows the percentage of male and female teachers in six different types of educational setting in the UK in 2010

The bar chart illustrates the proportion of men and women who teach in six different kinds of educational system in the UK in 2010

In three of the six educational levels, females outnumbered males. Female teachers made up a particularly large proportion of teacher group in three lowest education such as nursery, primary school, and secondary school. The gender gap was especially large in pre-school and primary school, where there were five times as many female teachers as male teachers

Men and women were more equally represented in higher education as a college and private training institute, as well as secondary school. In secondary school, there were nearly as many women as men, respectively 50% and 42%. This was also true of college, where the percentage of female teachers were exactly 50% equal to male teachers. In contrast, nearly 70% of men taught at university, which was more than 30% of women.

Overall, the chart shows that at lower educational system, females continue to dominate. However, males also have a significant presence in teaching in higher education.
