The given two bar charts show how many marriages and divorces in America, and the marital status of the whole states in a thirty-year period, from 1970 to 2000.
As can be seen from the graphs, people who got married were far more than those who divorced in all the recorded years, but the gap between these two groups was narrowing. Also, while there were fewer people stepped into marriage throughout this period, those who remained single were increasing in number.
In both 1970 and 1980, there were just 2.5 million marriages, but this number dipped to about 2.3 million and continued to drop, touching at 2 million in 2000, which was a 50,0000 decrease. Turning into divorces, the numbers in most of the years were at around 1 million except for 1980, which was exceptionally reached at almost 1.5 million.
For the marital status of adult Americans, most people chose to marry in both 1970 (70%), but there was a markable declining (over10%) in three decades. While the proportions of singled people and divorced couples saw a considerable increase (6% to 8%), there were fewer people widowed within this time.
