The charts below give information on the ages of the populations of Yemen and Italy in 2000 and projections for 2050.
The pie charts illustrate the age categorization of population in Yemen and Italy in 2000 and give prediction for the year 2050.
In general, it appears that Yemen has a relatively young generation while the opposite trend is true to Italy.
As shown in the charts, people under 14 accounted for half of the population in Yemen in 2000. Meanwhile, the proportions of those within labor age and over 60 were 46.3 percent and 3.6 percent respectively. Compared to Yemen, the figure of senior citizens in Italy in 2000 was nearly eight times higher than that of Yemen’s with 24.10 percent. The group of people under 14 took up 14.3 percent of Italy’s population and the percentage of those between 15 and 59 was 61.6 percent.
Given the forecasts for the year 2050, the group of citizens under 14 in Yemen is expected to decrease steadily to 37 percent. In contrast, the proportion of those from 15 to 59 years old is likely to increase gradually to 57.30 percent whereas that of those over 60 will almost double to 5.7 percent. Similar to Yemen, the group of people older than 60 years old in Italy is predicted to expand by nearly twice and reach 42.30 percent in 2050. However, the percentages of those in working age and below 14 are projected to decline to 46.20 percent and 11.50 percent respectively.
