The charts below give information on the ages of the populations of Yemen and Italy in 2000 and projections for 2050. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The pie charts illustrate the proportion of people from three different age groups in 2000 and 2050 in two countries, namely Yemen and Italy.

At first glance, it is noticeable from the graphs that people between 15 and 59 years old had the largest percentage and have a tendency to increase in 2050 in both countries. By contrast, the figures for the over 60 group were by far lowest.

In 2000, the percentage of the 0-14 years old people in Yemen were the highest, at over 50% and the figure for people at the same age in Italy was significantly lower, at 14.3%. At the same time, the 15 – 59 group in Yemen and Italy made up for 46.3% and 61.6% respectively. Meanwhile, people over 60 years old in Yemen stood at 3.6%, which was the lowest figure, whereas the number of the over 60 group in Italy accounted for more than 14%.

In 2050, predictions reveal that the proportion of people aged from 0 to 14 in both countries Yemen and Italy will drop to 37% and 11.5% respectively. In the same time, it is forecast that the 15-59 Italian group will experience a decrease to 46.2%. By contrast, the figure for those who are between 15 and 59 in Yemen will climb to 57.3%. Meanwhile, there will be a rise of 2.1% in the rate of Yemen’s population over 60 while Italian people at the same age group is predicted to almost double in 50 years.
