The pie charts compare the water usage of various sectors of the economy in Sydney, in two years – 1997 and 2007.
Overall, the food industry accounted for the highest percentage of water usage, while the building industry used the least water between the two years. Also, the water usage of the service industry almost doubled over the period shown.
In 1997, 48% of total water was used by food industry, and the figure fell to 41% in 2007. Likewise, the manufacturing and the building industry made up 15% and 5% of the total water usage at the beginning of the period, and these figures decreased to 11% and 2% respectively, in 2007.
By contrast, in 2007, the percentage of water consumption for service industry increased dramatically to 25% from 13% in 1997. In the meantime, the households saw a slight increase in their proportion of water usage, rising by 2% to 21% at the end of the period.
