The charts show average level of participation in education and the highest education level of adults from 2000 to 2010 in Singapore.
The diagrams depict the average of years the adult spent at school and the highest qualification they have obtained in Singapore from 2000 to 2010.
Overall, adult males' years in school were higher than adult females’ years in all years from 2000 to 2010. Although the people who had high school qualification have reduced and the adults who got masters or had university qualification increased but the number of people finished the primary school has changed dramatically.
The number of years of schooling for adult males increased from 9 in 2000 to 12 in 2010, which means the number of years has rose by just under a third over time. While the years of education for adult females has witnessed a slight increase, with a leveling out in some years, it went up from 8 in 2000 to 9 in 2010. However, the total number of schooling for males and females has climbed over a period of ten years.
At the same time, primary qualification has dropped sharply from one quarter in 2000 to around 2.1% in 2010. It is clear that the secondary and the high school qualification decreased significantly, while the rate of university and master boomed steeply. Finally, the increase in the years of schooling for adult males, the university qualification rate increased significantly and the primary qualification rate dipped sharply.
