The diagram illustrates the process of building an igloo
The diagram shows how an igloo is constructed. Overall, there are 13 different steps, beginning with finding the hard-packed snow and ending with ventilation holes being cut on the wall and roof of the finished igloo.
First, using a specialized snow saw to cut the hard-packed snow into blocks. The large blocks are utilized to build the foundation of the igloo, then the edges of the blocks are smoothed before being stacked up in a circle upwards. Next, an entrance is made by digging a hole under the circular wall and the last opening on top is filled with an over-sized block to form a dome.
After that, loose snow is thrown on the igloo to cement all the crevices and gaps. Then the walls inside the igloo are smoothed by hand, and the entrance is created with covering of snow blocks. Finally, air holes are drilled in the wall and roof to ensure the igloo is well-ventilated.
