The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two pie charts compare the energy consumption for 6 different purposes in an average house in Australia and the percentages of greenhouse gases released from this energy use.
Overall, the proportion of power consumed for heating is higher than the other purposes but it produces a low amount of harmful emissions. It is clear that the two figures for cooling are the lowest.
In the surveyed household, 42% of the energy is used for heating, followed by water heating with 30%. However, the percentage of greenhouse gases emitted from heating is only 15%, while the figure for water heating is the highest among the surveyed ways of using power, 32%.
Turning to the other purposes, other appliances sector accounts for a mere 15% of the power used in the house but releases 28% of the gas amount, which is the second highest figure in the second chart. Similarly, the proportions of energy used for refrigeration and lighting are significantly low, 7% and 4%, respectively, but the amounts of resulted gases are doubled for each. Finally, cooling makes up only 2% of the power consumed and 3% of the gas emissions.
