The given graph demonstrates some striking similarities between the birth rates of Chinese and US during the period from 1920 to 2000. It can be seen that both nations experienced remarkable fluctuations, with lows during the 1940s and highs during the 1990s.
Starting from 10 percent in 1930 then jumped to 15 percent in 1935, the figures of China then fell to just 5 percent in the 1940s. The numbers continue to rise, reaching a peak of 20 percent in 1950. China, however, went through the next 50 years with declining in this figure.
Birth rates in the US fluctuated between 11 and 13 before 1940, then dropped to less than 5 in 1945. In the next 5 years, the number rose to 15 percent, then followed by a sustained fall.
It can be noted that the birth rates were comparable prior to 1950, however the gap widened after fertility in China steadily decreased.
