The line graph illustrates how the food and oil prices of the world changed over 11 years from 2000.
Overall, the figures for food and oil fluctuated violently over the period shown. Besides, the food price index and the amount of money spent on a barrel of oil in 2011 were higher than those in 2000.
As can be seen from the graph, in the year 2000, the average global oil was close to $25 per barrel, while the food price index stood at just over 90 points. In the following eight years, the figures for both increased sharply to 190 points and $95 per barrel, respectively.
In the middle of the period from 2008 to 2009, the oil price figure reached a peak of around $130 every barrel before declining significantly be roughly %110 in 2009. In the same year, food prices decreased to about 140 points. In the year 2011, the price of food was highest, at nearly 240 points. The figure for oil rose not as sharply as that of food during the last two years, reached close to $110 per barrel at the end of the period.
