The line graph illustrates the usage of three different spreads between 1981 to 2007. It compares the consumption of margarine, low fat and reduced spreads, and butter.
Overall, at the beginning margarine was the most utilized spread, while low fat and reduced spreads being the least. However, from 1991 the former was overtaken by the latter. Although butter was not at all used till 1996, it was the most consumed in 2007.
It can be observed from the graph, that margarine utilization was 140 grams in 1981 and increased to 160 grams in 1986. Nevertheless, it experienced a sudden decline by 1991 and from here it consistently fell till 2001 with only around 50 grams.
In the case of low fat and reduced spreads, this was rather fluctuating. The consumption initially dipped from approximately 90 to 80 grams between 1981 and 1986. Later it rose to around 100 grams in 1991 which was almost consistent till 1996.
Butter was introduced in 1996 with the usage of fewer than 20 grams. Nonetheless, it surged drastically to roughly 80 grams in 2001 leaving the other spreads behind. Even though it decreased to 70 grams by 2007, it was still the most consumed spread.
