From an overall perspective, while the figure for Japan and the US had a decreasing tendency, that of China and India observed a reverse pattern. In addition, the percentage of China witnessed the most significant change throughout the 22-year period.
In 1990, Japan and the US held the first and second place, at approximately 26% and 12%, respectively. During the next 5 years, the data for those nations dropped considerably, with that of Japan reaching 20% and the US reaching 9%. From 1995 to 2012, the statistic for Japan gradually decreased until reaching around 17% at the end of the period, making it the second place, behind China. Meanwhile, the figure for the US experienced a considerable rise in 2000 before decreasing down to 7% in 2012.
The figure for Japan and India both began respectively low at the beginning of the 22-year period, at lower than 5%. The percentage of those nations then slightly climbed until 2000. During the last 12 years of the period, while the data for China skyrocketed, reaching its peak of 30% in 2012, that of India increased considerably, remained the lowest, at 6% in the same year.
