The line chart illustrates the percentage of old people aged 65 and above from 1940 to 2040, a period of 100 years in three different countries.
Overall, Japan has shown a significant increase in the longevity since 2020 onward, whereby Sweden and USA have some similar patterns.
It is worth noting that the biggest rise belonged to USA in 1940, with more than 9% of people aged 65 and above, meanwhile Sweden followed a fairly similar pattern with roughly 7%. Then, both countries witnessed a slight upward trend till 1990, then the figure of Sweden has overtaken USA and increased gradually till 2040, with roughly 25% at that period. After a mild increase after 1980 at 15%, USA has experienced a small drop in 2020 and rose up again in 2040 with 24%.
Throughout the timescale, Japan has a mere minority of citizen aged 65 and over. Japan has followed by a period of stability, especially during 1960 and 1990. Afterward, there has been a rise in the population aged 65 and over in 2005. In 2030, the pattern in Japan has risen dramatically and exceeded two other countries, with 27% of the old population being recorded.
