The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.
Given is the line graph depicting the rate of population falling into the 65 and over age bracket in three separate nations: USA, Sweden and Japan over a century, commencing with the year 1940.
Perceptibly, all of the populations in the three aforementioned countries witnessed a significant upswing throughout the period. Moreover, Japan’s figure, despite being the lowest at the beginning, reached its zenith at the end of the survey.
It is evident that merely 5% of the population in Japan was in the 65 and over age group in the year 1940. Interestingly, this figure slightly fluctuated prior to hitting a plateau at the same level as the first year in for the following 6 decades. Thereafter, it surprisingly experienced a drastic leap to report at 27% in 2040. Besides, the proportion of people 65 and over in Sweden was recorded at a loftier point than in Japan, with 8% in the first year. Subsequently, this data multiplied by 14% in 2000, and at the end it witnessed an exponential proliferation to 25%.
Furthermore, the USA ranked first at the beginning of the examined year, attaining 9%. Additionally, it registered at the same rate as Sweden in the year 2000, at 14%. This figure showed a great escalation to reach 23% in 2040, which was the lowest one at this time.
