The line graph illustrates the four methods of transportation of goods in UK from year 1974 to 2002. The amounts are measured in million tonnes and the four different modes are road, water, rail and pipeline. Overall, it can be seen that the highest quantities of goods were transported by road throughout this time period.
While road delivery marks highest quantity, water and pipeline shows almost same pattern within the same duration. In 1974, road transportation has started at seventy million tonnes and water and rail modes were at fourty million tonnes. But, at that time pipeline mode stayed at five million tonnes marking the lower level.
Until the year 1978, there were slight change in all four method. After this year the amount of goods which transported by rail has begun to drop while other three modes started to rise in significant amount. This trend was continued until 1995 for the road and pipeline method. After this year these two methods are used rigorously for the delivery of goods. However, water method achieved this sharp increase in 1998 and continued to rise.
