The graph shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 to 2007.
The given graph illustrates how much carbon dioxide in average each person emit in the UK, Sweden, Italy and Portugal throughout the 40-year period from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, in the UK and Sweden, the average amount of CO2 went on a downward trend, whereas the number in Italy and Portugal experienced an increase in 40 years of surveying.
Throughout the first 10 years, from 1967 to 1977, the amount of CO2 emissions in Sweden went up smoothly, from above 8 to over 10 tonnes, while the figure in the UK decreased inconsiderably. However, from then on, the amount of emitted CO2 tended to decline in both countries. In the UK, from 1977 to 2007, the volume of CO2 emissions went down gradually, from over 10 to around 9 tonnes. Meanwhile, in Sweden, there was a sharp reduction from over 10 to around 7 tonnes in 1987, and then a continual decline to below 6 tonnes at the end of the surveyed period.
In Italy and Portugal, there was a similar pattern in the changes of the amount of CO2 emissions. From 1967 to 1997, the volume of CO2 each person emitted in Portugal increased stably, from around 1 to 5 tonnes, while the figure in Italy experienced a steep growth in the first 10 years then a gradual growth from 4 to below 8 tonnes. In the last 10 years, the number remained the same in Italy, whereas the change in Portugal was inconsiderable.
