The line chart compares and contrasts data on the changes in the percentage of 65-and-above years old people in three different countries namely America, Sweden, and Japan throughout a century, starting from 1940.
A closer look at the diagram highlights the fact that all of the three countries witnessed the same upward trend over the same period of time.
More specifically, starting at 5%, the proportion of Japanese aging population decreased slightly and remained at roughly 3% in the first 40 years. Whereas the others experienced an upward trend and reached at 15% for America and 14% for Sweden in 1980. The figures for Japanese aging population soon rose again, followed by a predictable rapid increase of 24%. It is forecasted that 65-year-and-above population of Sweden will reach its peak at 20% which was 6% higher than that of USA in the 2010s. However, the aging population of USA and Sweden are predicted to witness a gradual rise of 9% and 5% respectively in 2040 compared to that of in 2012.
