It is apparent that the preferences of fast food among British citizens fluctuated over 20 years of period. There were similarities in the incremental trends for fish and chips and hamburger whereas pizza showed a detrimental trend.
At the beginning of the period, the UK’s most popular fast food was pizza as they ate about 300 times a year. By contrast, British citizens ate fish and chips 100 times a year while hamburgers for around 50 times a year. The amount of pizza consumption decreased to around 200 times in 1980 whereas the amount of other two fast food categories rose - around 150 and around 100 for fish and chips, and hamburgers, respectively. After 1980, the preferences in fast food reversed; fish and chips became the most popular fast food in the UK whereas pizza was the least popular food. The amount of fish and chips intake rose drastically to reach at its peak of 500 in 1990 while similar growth showed for hamburgers to reach at 300. Meanwhile, pizza had a steady fall throughout the period and recorded at just above 200 times in 1990.
