While the line graph illustrates the number of immigrants who obtained uk citizenship from 1962 to 2002, the bar chart demonstrates the distribution of those people by continents in 1996 and 2002.
Generally, the number of people who became uk citizens during the period of 40 years rose dramatically by 100 thousand, mostly contribute from asia.
Initially, there are 20 thousand people who gained uk citizenship in 1962 before increasing to 39 thousand in the next ten years. The figure was later decrease slightly to 30 thousand in 1982, and begin to climb again to 50 thousand in 1992. In the preceded ten years, it soared into 119 thousand people who was given uk citizenship by the government.
Among nearly 120 thousand newly citizens in the uk in 2002, 58 thousand were originally from asia, followed by europe and africa at the second and the third place on the distribution scale whereas the last position belongs to america, australasia and others. Specifically, in 1996, 49 thousand immigrants from asia was recorded to move to the uk. The number rose modestly by nearly 10 thousand over six years. there was 9 thousand people immigrated from each continents, europe and africa in 1996. These figures, however, tripled to 27 and 25 thousand after six years respectively. In contrast to such increasing, the number of immigrants from america, australasia and others to uk decreased slightly by one thousand in the same period.
