Essay topics:

information on the demographics in 1950 and 2000.

The tables show information on the demographics in 1950 and 2000. The first table illustrates the world population growth, while the second chart compares the demographic distribution in six regions: Asia, Africa, North America, Latin America, Europe, and Oceania in the two years.

Overall, the total global population increased nearly three times between 1950 and 2000, from 2.5 to 6 billion people. The same demographic trend can be seen in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Oceania with a maximum of five percent increase in the percentage of the territory’s population. In contrast, Europe showed a sharp depopulation within 50 years by depopulating approximately half of its inhabitants (from 22% to 12%), while the figure for North America only decreased slightly by 2%. Additionally, Asia was the most populous area, whereas Oceania was the least populated place throughout the given period.

With the increase in the percentage of total residents in Asia and Oceania, there was no change in the position of the most populated region – Asia, and the least inhabited zone - Oceania in the two-year period. By 2000, only 1% of the world’s citizens inhabited Oceania, compared to one-fourth of it lived in Asia.

However, changes were witnessed in the position of other figures. Due to a remarkable decline, Europe fell to the third most populous continent, leading Africa to become the second most crowded place in 2000 with 13% of the global populace. Moreover, by falling 2% in the total citizens, North America’s position downed to the fifth most populated continent while Latin America gained the fourth place with a three percent increase in its figure.
