International sporting events such as the Olympic Games and the Football World Cup provide an outlet for patriotic feelings, and help reduce international tensions.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Nationalism can be strengthen by the international sporting events like Olympic Games and the Football World Cup because nearly all supporters more likely yelling out as a form of their national identity and proud of it. This also help two countries that have conflicts reduce their tensions for showing that they can join the games sportively.
International sporting events is always associated with yelling out from the participant countries’ supporters, and this is completed by using their national stuffs like sticker and flag as to bring their identity and support the athletes or teams. Indonesia citizens for example, they have strong nationalism by singing Indonesia Raya, Indonesia national song during the football league in the Football World Cup 2017 as a form to boost players’ spirit because they fight for their nations’ victory. This proofs that yelling out affects both supports and players’ patriotic feelings.
Apart from the previous discussions, in the international sporting games many countries join as participants while there are countries that have conflict, but both of the conflicted countries play sportively without bringing their problems into the competitions. Russia an America are two strong countries which had conflicts more than a decade ago, but when they met in the Olympic Games 2018 seems like there was no problems between them because they showed that they appreciated each other. This makes the relations of that countries more healthier since the tensions was reduced.
It is clear that nationalism comes from supporters’ yelling out as to support their teams during the international sporting events. This also effective to fix the relations between conflicted nations since it reduces the tensions through playing sportively.
