The line graph provides information on oil production and use in China for a period of 24 years, from 1982 to 2006. Overall, even though use and production were at the same level at the start, oil consumption prevailed over production at the end of the period.
Looking at consumption, in 1982, 2 million barrels of oil were used and the rates remained same until 1990 where there was a rapid surge in the consumption reaching to around 3.8 million barrels in 1994. This trend continued and consumption grew sharply to 4 and 5 million barrels respectively in 1998 and 2002. Similarly, by the end of the period, consumption was around 6.5 million barrels, which was the highest of all years.
As far as production is concerned, 1982 is the same as consumption (2 million barrels). However, it did not undergo the same trend. In 1986, 3 million barrels of oil were produced and the numbers continued till 1998. After which, there was a slight increase to about 3.2 million barrels and remained the same till 2006.
