The line graph shows the percentage of the New Zealand population from 1950 to 2050. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below. You should write at least 150 words.
This graph illustrates the percentage of four different age groups in New Zealand from 1950 to 2050, a period of 100 years.
Overall, it is clear that there are significant changes in population growth over time. While the youngest group and the 38-45 age group witnessed a slight increase, people aged 25-37 and over 65 fell down gradually in the end.
According to the chart, starting with only 5% in 1950, 0 to 14-year-old people remained unchanged for the following 30 years and negligibly declined to about 3% in the 1990s before rising quickly to the highest point of 20% in 2050. Climbing from 20% to 25% in the 1950s, the 25-37 age group gradually dropped to the bottom of nearly 0% in the last year.
The 38-45s which escalated dramatically to a peak of about 50% in 1990, decreased to 40% in 2000, followed by a stable trend for the last 50 years. The oldest group that took up the biggest percentage of all, reached a peak of 70% in 1990 before going down to the lowest point of 55% in the end. Interestingly, only in 2000 did the youngest group and the 25-37s meet together.
