Monthly expenditure by British household from 1990 to 2010

Essay topics:

Monthly expenditure by British household from 1990 to 2010

The bar chart compares the amount of money British spent on household over the course of 20 years, from 1990 to 2010.

Overall, the cost paid for all household demands, including utility bills, transports, rent, and groceries experienced an upward trend, with an exception for entertainment.

Look at the bar chart for more detail, we can see that the amount paid for rent and entertainment dominated in monthly cost of British. In 1990, the cost for rent was 450 pounds per month, which was 150 pounds less than that in 2010. From 1990 to 2010, Groceries witnessed a slight increase, at 320 pounds and 340 pounds, respectively.

It is obvious that British spent a small amount of money on utility bills, transports, and entertainment. In 1990, utility bills costed British 90 pounds per month, which was a half that of transport at the same time. However, these types of cost was then double in 2010, with 150 pounds for utility and 250 pounds for transport. The striking feature was the expenditure of entertainment, which observed a downward trend, from 120 pounds in 1990, remaining stable in 2000, and losing momentum to reach its rock bottom at 100 pounds at the end of timescale surveyed.
