The pie chart below show the share of Oscar winners by film genre for 2003 and 2008.

The two pie charts given compares the proportion of oscar winners by seven film genre between 2003 and 2008.

As can be seen from the chart, there was an upward trend in the proportion of oscar film winners by 4 genres in the period between 2003 and 2008. The percentage of oscar winner in documentary rose by 2% from under 10% during this 5-year interval, in addition to a slight growth to 7% in the rate of Romance fil. The proportion of science fiction film doubled to approximately 15%, while a 15% rise to nearly a third in the rate of action was witnessed in the same period of time.

In contrast, an opposite tendency was evident in the rest over the same time span. Thriller, which was nearly a half in 2003, dropped by almost 10% to just over two third in 2008. The same movement was true in horror film, which had a fall from over 15% in 2003 to nearly a half (under 10%). The rate of comedy film being oscar winners remained stable between 2003 and 2008 at just over 5%.

In conclusion, documentary still came top of the list while comedy was on the other end of the scale from 2003 to 2008.
