The pie charts below show the main reasons why students chose to study at a particular UK university in 1987 and 2007.
The given pie charts illustrate the information regarding 5 major factors that made students enroll at one UK university in the 2 years 1987 and 2007.
Overall, the majority of the students considered having a suitable degree course to be the deciding factor, and a difference after 20 years was that there was a tendency for them to want to be close to their parents.
According to the charts, 35% of the students studied at the university due to suitable degree courses in 1987, higher than the percentage of those who went to the university because of quality resources and sports/social activities by 14% and 16%, respectively. Much lower than these figures, quality of teaching and being close to parents only accounted for 15% and 10% of the reasons in 1987.
However, it can also be observed that two decades later, the proportion of the students going to the university because of proximity to parents experienced a considerable rise to almost a quarter, whereas that of those who sought sports and social activities remarkably dropped to as low as 6%. Meanwhile, in comparison to the 8% of students prioritizing the quality of teaching of the university, twice as many students chose the quality of resource in 2007.
