The table and pie charts below show the number of research students in Australian universities in 2001 and 2010.

The given table and pie charts give information about the number of local and international research students in universities in Australia between 2001 and 2010.

Overall, as can be seen from the table and the charts, it can be seen that an upward trend was seen in both the number of local and international research students and the majority of them was the local ones. In addition, the rate of local male students was the highest over the given period.

Looking more closely at the table, in 2001, the number local students doing the research was the higher, at about 33,657 students, while the figure for international students was remarkably lower, at only approximately 5,192 students. After 9 years, there was a significant rise to 39,488 students in the number of local research students. Meanwhile, a noticeable rise of roughly 9,400 students to 14,593 students was seen in the figure for international research ones, leading to a noticeable increase in the number of total students.

According to the pie charts, in 2001, the rate of local male students was the highest, at roughly 44%, while the figure for local female was insignificantly lower, at about 43%. Additonally, while 9% of the total students was non-local female, the non-local male accounted for only 4%. After a period of 9 years later, although a slight decline of 6% to 38% was seen in the proportion of local boys, it still was the highest in the four criteria. Meanwhile, the figure for local girl decreased slightly by 8% to about 35%. By contrast, an increase was seen in the percentage of non-local male and female, to 15% and 12% respectively.
