The table illustrates how the average distance in miles changed with various transports per traveller in England in 1985 and 2000. Overall, there was a significant rise in average of distance by all modes in the period of 15 years from 1985.
Starting with private transports, it can be noted that the average distance of car was dramatically higher than that of walking and bicycle which increased from 3199 miles in 1985 to 4806 miles in 2000. Contrarily, walking and bicycle showed a slight decrease at 237 and 41 miles respectively in 2000. Then, public conveyances had two different trends. The average amount of length of local bus was noticeably higher than the others in the same category in 1985 before falling nearly a half to 274 miles in 2000. Nevertheless, this sort of data of the other vehicles in this group grew much higher in 2000 at 124, 366, and 42 miles of long distance bus, train and taxi respectively. Other modes of travel also rose approximately 100 miles in average distance from 1985 to 2000 leading the total average space increased from 4740 to 6475.
